Alex MacPhail

After leaving school, Alex MacPhail became a highly successful commodities dealer and by the age of 18 he was earning £150,000 per year. He then set up a direct sales company which achieved an annual turnover of £10m. Again he was very successful in that venture, but he still felt that he lacked the personal strategies that would enable him to maintain high levels of motivation in any situation, and the ability to communicate that belief to those around him

Alex began to study the work of the legendary American motivational gurus, Anthony Robbins and Stephen Covey (“The Seven Habits of Highly Successful People”), who were then largely unknown the UK. He was so convinced that British audiences would benefit from their motivational techniques and belief systems that he visited them in the United States and acquired exclusive licences to bring them to the UK. As a result, Robbins and Covey both spoke in the UK to sell-out audiences of up to 3,000 people, many of whom then went on to join their intensive two- and five-day courses.

Such was the demand for their programmes, that Alex, having been personally trained by both Robbins and Covey, set up his own training company to bring these techniques to UK and European corporations. It now operates in Ireland, Germany, Italy, Poland and South Africa. Thousands of management professionals every year benefit from his training programmes.

Alex describes his work as “Attitudinal, behavioural training” and is able to share the benefits of his many years of work and study in this area in an extremely high-energy and humorous keynote speech. In the course of a year he makes well over 100 keynote speeches to leading UK and European audiences.

Alex describes his philosophy as follows:-

“What is the difference between the top 10% of performers in your company and the remaining 90%? The answer has very little to do with technical skill and ability and a great deal to with mental attitude. What I can do is to give the 90% the same attitudes and beliefs as the 10% and the leadership skills to communicate them to others.”

“Please pass thanks from us all in IBM Marketing to Alex for his presentation today. It was very well received and it was delivered with all the fizz and panache that is Alex’s trade mark.”
Vice President Marketing, IBM

“I wanted to thank you for your contribution to Cap Gemini Ernst & Young’s Business Winner’s Conference. The “Energiser” sessions were invaluable in raising energy and attention levels during what was a very long day. We have received some extremely positive feedback from the delegates who left the event feeling motivated and ready to face the challenges ahead”.
Vice President, Cap Gemini Ernst & Young

“A brief note to thank you for the excellent session on “Mastering Your Motivation” you provided at our Regional Masters event. The positive feedback received has full of praise for the presentation and content of the day. Comments like `It’s turned my year around’ quoted by a top performer I believe says it all.”
Director, NatWest

“I wanted to thank you for the superb role you fulfilled at this year’s IBM conference. As you know, this year heralded something of a departure from previous years and also brought with it a small degree is risk. This fully paid off however, since the audience was much more engaged, alert, and certainly laughed a great deal more”
HP:ICM Event Management

“Thank you very much for your time and energy at last week’s Senior Management Forum. Your pitch and delivery were spot on for the audience and it fitted perfectly with the theme. I have heard or seen “Breakthrough to Peak Performance” several times now but I must say that on each occasion it still gets me back to the 10 again.”
Regional Vice President, Computer Associates
