Alex Phillips

Alex walks her talk. As skipper of the yacht “Quadstone” in the 2000 BT Global Challenge, known as “The World’s Toughest Yacht Race”, she developed a group of amateurs into a high performing team and led them to victory against the odds through some of the harshest conditions on this planet.

The skipper’s role in this race has been likened to one of the toughest management jobs in the world. Leading a group of amateur sailors from all walks of life through triumphs and disasters Alex learned many lessons relevant to the business world of today. She is the only female skipper to ever win a leg of this race, which is all about ordinary people achieving extraordinary results.

Her extensive experience ability and experience gained by training amateur crews not only to sail but also to handle the many pressures created by life in the cramped conditions on board for extensive periods of time, has given rise to her speaking and training prowess in the Corporate world. She has a rare and powerful gift of explaining complex subjects in a way that is simple and clear to grasp.

Alex is passionate about helping people fulfil their dreams, and it was a natural progression for her to move from high-profile yacht racing into the business world. Her lessons and experience are readily adaptable to the challenges facing business leaders. An Ambassador for Investors in People and NLP Master Practitioner, Alex has trained extensively in the fields of Team Development, Behavioural Change and Executive Coaching, and now delivers Leadership Seminars, Executive Coaching, Team Development, Communication skills and Stress Management programmes for many clients in both the private and public sectors.
