An Enlightened Approach

Our clients are wide ranging in their business profiles and in their development needs. However, whatever the organisation, wherever the team or whomever the person, we always strive to tailor our solutions to match their particular needs.  One such case was the investment we put into working on partnership with Flybe to develop their tailored Leadership Development programme, which also included some psychometrics and executive coaching. Flybe invested in allocating about 100 supervisors, managers and senior managers to their development programme and have really started to reap the benefits.  We have used 5 different trainers with Flybe and all the feedback has been excellent. The latest was about Richard Giles, one of our Leadership Experts. Here’s the letter we received from their Head of Engineering.

“May I just pass on some of my thanks for all the work done in training my managers. It has become obvious to me that the training given is having a marked improvement on the management abilities of my guys. To be a little more specific, I have certain managers who I know are excellent at organising the recovery of broken aeroplanes but often had no idea that they were “burning up” the willingness and flexibility of their staff in doing this in their very blinkered way! They now show a much more considered attitude to managing their staff, they are able to deliver a more supportive and helpful approach to the issues and are often taking ownership of problems that would, before this training, end up at my door. I have seen a dramatic reduction in personnel problems in general, along with those getting to me personally. I put this down specifically to their new enlightened approach. Many of my managers have already achieved a good level of qualifications in management and when this training started they were skeptical, but after having talked with them lately, all have acknowledged that they are indeed learning from the training, have benefitted from it and are keen to put the training in to practice. I had before all this started identified three likely candidates identified as possible deputy’s, but all three had “management” failings and I was very reluctant to progress with any one. After this course I have seen changes in all three but one has certainly made significant improvements to such an extent I would now consider him suitable. His approach to his staff has changed dramatically and his ability to accept issues without feeling he has to defend is encouraging. He is a much more balanced and team orientated manager than before who now accepts a problem and rather than argue it,  wants to rectify it and improve.
