leadership poem

Fraser MurayStand up great leader, stand up!
It’s easy to ‘stand’ when the crowd lends a hand,
And you’re up for the thrill of success.
It’s easy to hear when the fans give a cheer,
‘Coz you’re wearing the right coloured vest.

It’s a tougher tune, when it’s all doom and gloom,
And you feel that you’re on your way out.
When you’re two men down and you’ve lost your crown
‘Stand up’ great leader and shout!

When you question the day that you ever did say
You’d be honoured to be ‘one of the bosses’
The press is against, and your back’s to the fence
And results show you’re making great losses.

It’s your toughest sailing and your strategy’s failing’
Your troops are taking the brunt.
When the team’s struck with fear, and they look to the rear
‘Stand Up’ and head to the front.

When your customers say, that they’ll no longer pay,
For a service that’s losing it’s zest,
Make products to last, then deliver them fast
And set standards to make you the best.

When you look back with pride on the bumpiest ride,
And the team gave their very best try
When all’s said and done and the battles been won,
‘Stand Up’ and hold your head high !

And if all efforts fail and you end up in jail,
Remember that you did your bit
To your values stay true, and whatever you do,
Don’t drop your team in the sh*t!
